No Ghost Just A Shell
No Ghost Just A Shell with works by Angela Bulloch & Imke Wagener, Liam Gillick, Pierre Huyghe, Richard Phillips, Rirkrit Tiravanija, M/M (Paris), Philippe Parreno
No Ghost Just a Shell is a multimedia, multi-author project initiated by artists Pierre Huyghe (b. 1962) and Philippe Parreno (b. 1964). In 1991, Huyghe and Parreno purchased the rights to a figure from Kworks, a Japanese firm that develops figures for cartoons, advertising and video games for the Japanese Manga industry. This figure, whom they named AnnLee, was then introduced to other artists for use in their projects. Each of these projects reflected a chapter in the “life” of AnnLee. Subsequently, these projects were brought together and presented as a travelling exhibition entitled No Ghost Just a Shell. The exhibition began its international tour at the Kunsthalle Zürich in 2002. The project, in its entirety, has since entered the Van Abbemuseum’s collection.
The Biennale presents a selection of works, including videos, paintings and installations, in various galleries at Tanjong Pagar Distripark.
